Darren Wilson, the white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri who shot and killed Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, has quit the police force, less than a week after a St. Louis grand jury announced it would not indict him for the murder.
He submitted his resignation letter last night (Nov. 29) and it read,

I, Darren Wilson, hereby resign my commission as a police officer with the City of Ferguson effective immediately. I have been told that my continued employment may put the residents and police officers of the City of Ferguson at risk, which is a circumstance that I cannot allow.
It is my hope that my resignation will allow the community to heal. I would like to thank all of my supporters and fellow officers throughout this process.
The 28 year old cop says he wants to spend time with his wife and find a new career…don’t be surprised if he gets a reality TV show…this is America after all!
In an ABC News interview a few days after the grand jury’s ruling, Wilson said his shooting of Michael Brown 6 times was justified because “he feared for his life”. Please remember that Mike Brown was unarmed.
The grand jury’s decision brought about widespread racial tensions which incited demonstrations and looting in Ferguson and St. Louis, protesters across the United States also took to the streets to protest white cops getting away with killing black men.
