Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent final night of whirlwind New York City tour at a glittery fundraising gala. They were raising money for St Andrews University in Scotland, where they both met and fell in love as students. Cash will fund scholarships and bursaries for under-privileged students, as well as new sports and media facilities. Some guests paid $10,000 to attend event at Metropolian Museum of Art; US comedian Seth Meyers gave a toast. William told 450 seated attendees: 'I don't need to tell you how much St Andrews means to me and Catherine'.

Later that night, royal couple will fly back to UK, where they will be reunited with 16-month-old son, Prince George.

Earlier today, they attended a lunch to celebrate British creativity with Sir Patrick Stewart and Harvey Weinstein. They also looked somber as they laid white roses at the 9/11 Memorial Reflection Pools and attended the museum. Prince William later visited Empire State Building, while Kate - who is nearly five months' pregnant - got some rest. Last night, royal couple came face to face with pop royalty - Beyonce and Jay Z - at Brooklyn Nets basketball game.
Kate also bonded over motherhood with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton while William met with President Obama
