At least 25,000 took to the streets in New York City, police confirmed, with similar estimates in the capital. Protests shut down the Brooklyn Bridge as activists flooded across it, and two NYPD officers were injured. Chicago, Boston, Colorado Springs and Oakland California among other cities hit by protests.
Marchers waved 'Black Lives Matter' sings in bid to end to police violence. Prominent figures included Michael Brown's mother Lesley McSpadden, as well as Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin, and Tamir Rice's mother, Samaria Garner's widow told the crowd: 'Let's keep it strong, long and meaningful'.
